Paramedics made contact with the patient via ground, while LAFD Air Ops landed nearby. Ground crews transferred her into the helicopter, which took off and transported her to an area hospital in moderate condition. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to free both patients, but sadly one of them was beyond medical help and had already succumbed to their injuries on scene. Three others were transported: two approximately 30-year-old females in moderate condition, and one approximately 35-year-old female in critical condition (initially trapped). Motorists, expect congestion and delay, avoid the immediate area and consider an alternate route. Detours are readily available. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, but sadly, one adult male was killed by the initial collision (not fire). One adult female was transported to the hospital with minor injuries (none fire-related). One or more street lanes will remain closed in the area until the LAPD investigation and Medical Examiner operations are complete (unknown duration). As the incident progressed, crews observed structural weakening and were forced to retreat into defensive mode. Once outside, the structure sustained a partial roof collapse. It took 90 firefighters 35 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. It took 36 firefighters 61 minutes to extinguish the flames in medium-to-heavy brush.
