He has now safely been taken into LAPD custody with no injuries. LAFD crews are picking up equipment and CHP hopes to have the NB101 re-opened shortly. ALL AREAS that were in the Mandatory Evacuation (RED) zone remain under Mandatory Evacuation, and are off-limits, with NO public entry being permitted as Police Officers continue to protect those neighborhoods. Those who remain in the Evacuation Warning (YELLOW) zones (including the Mountain Gate Community which was repopulated last night) are reminded to review Ready, Set, Go! procedures at: https://www.lafd.org/ready-set-go. Firefighters continued to take advantage of the favorable weather conditions into today, working with aircraft to extinguish any flare ups and mop up hot spots. Current objectives include structure protection and building further containment lines before another forecasted Santa Ana Wind event begins tonight around 11:00PM (wind gusts of 30-50 mph are expected). The Westwood and Palisades Recreation Centers remain open 24 hours for any residents (small animals welcome). 8 residences were destroyed and 6 damaged by the fire. Residents of Mountaingate should travel slowly and carefully through the area, and be prepared to offer photo identification for neighborhood re-entry. ALL OTHER AREAS that were earlier today in the Mandatory Evacuation (RED) area remain under Mandatory Evacuation, and are off-limits tonight, with NO public entry being permitted overnight as Police Officers continue to protect those neighborhoods. Update Structure Fire; INC#0465; 09:55AM; 4760 W Melrose Av; http://bit.ly/2BLyy2j; East Hollywood; KNOCKDOWN: 81 FF in 1hr 22 mins. After an initial offensive attack and finding fire on both floors and through the roof, the structural integrity of the building was compromised and the incident transitioned to a defensive operation. Firefighters used hand lines from the exterior and adjacent roof in addition to ladder pipes to fully extinguish the fire. LAFD Arson is on scene for the investigation.
