KNOCKDOWN Greater Alarm Structure Fire 01/01/2024 INC#1506

KNOCKDOWN Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#1506; 12:11AM; 6415 N Van Nuys Bl; https://bit.ly/3RZIrBu; #VanNuys; Over 100 firefighters battled flames for 2 hours and 39 minutes in a large one-story commercial building that housed three separate businesses, and was part of a row of other commercial buildings on Van Nuys Boulevard. The primary function of the businesses in the fire building was the storage/sale of textiles (which heavily fueled the fire), but a church also operated out of the rear of the building. Crews arrived to find smoke showing, but after making entry and ventilating the roof above, flames began shooting over 30 feet out of the building. Firefighters relocated their efforts to the exterior of the building for the remainder of the fire fight, using ladder pipes and other large hose streams to fight the fire from the outside. Eventually the roof collapsed, giving firefighters a more clear shot through the top, and successfully kept the fire from spreading to the adjacent businesses, which share a wall with the fire building. Thankfully, no one was inside and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.; FS 39; Batt 10; Valley Bureau; Council District 6; AR1 BC10 BC12 BC14 BC17 BC4 CM40 CM42 E100 E227 E239 E260 E27 E287 E288 E289 E293 E39 E81 E88 E89 E90 EA1 EM17 HE1 HR3 RA100 RA102 RA39 RA60 RA827 RA839 SO1 SQ87 T27 T39 T60 T87 T88 T89 T93 UR27 UR88; CH8; 17 18; Nicholas Prange

Update Structure Fire; INC#0838; 04:45PM; 19817 W Hatton St; https://bit.ly/41KQo0v; #Winnetka; A functional smoke alarm in the 2,159 square foot two-story residence reportedly aided the adult male homeowner (and sole building occupant) in safely escaping the fast-moving fire. His further statement to firefighters indicate a natural Christmas Tree in the first floor living room area to be the origin of the fire that destroyed his home. A City of Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety Inspector has formally "Red Tagged" the heavily damaged and physically unstable structure as unfit for entry. The LAFD was pleased to coordinate initial basic monetary assistance for the homeowner through the California Fire Foundation's 'Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency' (SAVE) Program ( https://www.cafirefoundation.org/what-we-do/for-communities/save ), and made the homeowner aware of available community resources.; FS 104; Batt 17; Valley Bureau; Council District 3; BC10 BC15 BC17 CM40 CM42 E104 E105 E290 E293 E305 E72 E87 EA1 EM15 PI2 RA104 RA107 RA72 SO1 T105 T90 T93; CH8; 17 18; Brian Humphrey
