Crews on the roof cut holes to allow smoke and heat to escape, and increase visibility for fire attack teams inside. Ultimately, it took 26 firefighters 17 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0462; 09:31AM; 19800 W Marilla St; https://bit.ly/3QkEqGj; #Chatsworth; Firefighters responded to a 2,932 square-foot two-story home built in 1958 with heavy fire inside. Crews advanced hose lines to the interior, while others ascended ladders to the roof to cut holes for the smoke and hot gasses to escape. It took 32 firefighters 20 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. One resident was home at the time, and sustained minor-to-moderate smoke inhalation while attempting to subdue the flames prior to LAFD arrival. Paramedics transported the approximately 55-year-old male to a local hospital. No firefighter injuries. Firefighters operated in the defensive mode (from the exterior only) to apply large amounts of water to the intense flames from around the perimeter of the structure. It took a total of 48 firefighters 45 minutes (1:47am) to extinguish the blaze. No reported injuries.
