While crews prepared to advance hose lines inside the house and cut holes in the roof, others performed salvage operations inside (gathering valuables and belongings and covering them to avoid further damage due to smoke or water). Ultimately, it took 32 firefighters 17 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the attic fire. No reported injuries. LAFD responded by ground and air to assist. Rescuers made contact with the man, who had minor injures, and hoisted him from the remote location, and making a "short haul" to a nearby helispot (predetermined helicopter landing area), where he was transferred to an LAFD ambulance for paramedic assessment and transport to a local hospital for further evaluation. River Rescue; INC#1523; 02:45PM; 17 Pacoima Wash; #Sylmar; Firefighters responded to bystander reports that a man jumped in the flowing water in pursuit of his dog. Crews responded to several bridges and access points down river and located the canine, who had managed to swim safely to the edge and escape the rapids. LAFD Air Ops lowered a rescuer into the water, who was able to grab the patient, who was still conscious. They were hoisted into the aircraft, and transported to the local hospital by air. His dog was taken to a local shelter for temporary care for minor injuries. There were no other victims in the water, related to this incident. Crews have searched up and down the river from Arleta to Downtown LA, and beyond (LA County FD responded to search beyond the LA City limits). Fire crews were never able to visually confirm a victim was in the water. Crews are picking up and clearing the incident.
