Update Brush Fire; INC#0991; 01:32PM; 15700 W Burbank Bl; https://bit.ly/3RG8PQg; Sepulveda Basin; As the fire fight raged on, it took 80 men and women of the LAFD just under 30 minutes to stop the forward spread of fire in the brush. There were no other injuries reported to civilians or firefighters. Due to the mechanism of injury being from a blast, the firefighter was transported to Northridge Hospital via Air Ambulance. The injuries to the Firefighter are now considered to be serious but not life threatening. PIO Erik Scott is at the Hospital to answer media inquires. As firefighters made access to the flames, there was an explosion causing an injury to a firefighter. No structure damage. No evacuation. Law enforcement will soon be reopening Big Tujunga Canyon Road in both directions between Mt. Gleason Avenue and Big Canyon Drive as firefighting operations are complete. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No structure threat. No evacuation. Law enforcement has been requested to close Big Tujunga Canyon Road in both directions between Mt. Gleason Avenue and Big Canyon Drive until firefighting operations are complete. Helicopter Hoist Rescue; INC#1412; 06:31PM; 1 Nike Site; https://bit.ly/3i17IHK; #Encino; Firefighters have located an adult male mountain biker who sustained an injury on a remote trail (near a former NIKE Missile Control Site near Mullholland Drive and Mandeville Fire Road). LAFD Rescue Helicopter has lowered a flight paramedic to provide treatment and prepare for a hoist operation. Structure Fire - Now Out; INC#1416; 07:09PM; 11159 W La Maida St; https://bit.ly/45tLwi5; #NorthHollywood; Firefighters responded to a 5,518 sq-ft two-story single-family home with smoke showing. Firefighters made entry to the living space and found the home to be unoccupied and no visible fire. Upon further inspection, crews discovered fire in the attic. Before applying water above, crews performed salvage operations (gathering furniture and belongings together to cover with large tarps/plastic) to protect from damage while extinguishing the fire above. Ultimately, it took 30 firefighters 28 minutes (7:37pm) to respond, complete salvage, and access/extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. Update Structure Fire; INC#1226; 04:45PM; 12601 W Van Nuys Bl; https://bit.ly/4b2eqac; #Pacoima; LAFD Firefighters systematically searching in the smoke-charged two story townhome quickly found and began resuscitative efforts on the two limp and apparently lifeless pet cats. Their perseverant efforts continued outdoors with the provision of medical oxygen and physical stimulation that soon restored their breathing and consciousness. The felines have been taken by their owner to a nearby emergency veterinarian, with a very promising outlook. There were no other human or animal injuries. No other animals are reported missing.
