Firefighters coordinated interior fire attack and roof operations, knocking down vehicles on fire inside the structure in 29 minutes. 68 firefighters on scene. No exposed structures involved with fire; no injuries. Reported Smoke; INC#1009; 01:48PM; 14142 W Vanowen St; https://bit.ly/4ndVFso; Van Nuys; Reports of smoke from a four story center hall apartment building prompted the first arriving LAFD units to investigate the source. No smoke or fire was visible, but fire alarm bells were ringing. Firefighters located a lithium-ion battery which had exploded in a third floor apartment, causing shattered windows and the initial reports of smoke. LAFD HazMat units are en route to assist with the overhaul of the unit as well as monitoring air quality for those occupants that are impacted. No reports of injury.
