Now Out Vegetation Fire; INC#1176; 05:01PM; 8625 N Orion Av; https://bit.ly/3d2UB7P; North Hills; Vegetation to the east of the 405 freeway caught fire and threatened homes, catching one or more out buildings on fire. Twenty-eight LAFD firefighters skillfully protected the nearby homes whose properties back up against the freeway. The fire was contained in just over twenty minutes, and the threat has been neutralized. Crews will remain on scene to extinguish hot spots. No reported injuries. Hiker Rescue; INC#0533; 10:10AM; O'Melveny Park; https://bit.ly/3q97iDp; Granada Hills; LAFD ground and air response to 4 exhausted hikers (Two 30 y/o females and Two 7 y/o girls) on a remote section of Grotto Trail near Top of O'Melveny. Knockdown - Grass Fire; INC#0867; 03:33PM; 6400 N Woodley Av; https://bit.ly/2SNWUV8; Van Nuys; With the assistance of precise helicopter water drops tapering the advance of the fire, the combined effort of 48 assigned LAFD ground and air personnel took less than 90 minutes to extinguish fire driven by light wind, holding it to one (1) acre of largely grass wildland *northwest* of 'Lake Balboa' in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area. No injury. No structure damage. LAFD ground crews will remain at scene this afternoon to mop up hot spots. Update Forward Progress Stopped Grass Fire; INC#0867; 03:20PM; 6400 N Woodley Av; https://bit.ly/2SNWUV8; Van Nuys; The 48 assigned LAFD ground and air personnel worked in unison to stop the forward progress of this largely wind-driven fire at one (1) acre of wildland northwest of 'Lake Balboa' in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area. No injury. No structure damage. LAFD ground crews will continue to work the entire edge of the fire this afternoon with hose lines and hand tools, to assure full containment and extinguishment. Chemical Investigation; INC#0743; 01:09PM; 18439 W Ventura Bl; https://bit.ly/3gsj3BD; Tarzana; **Corrected incident number: 0846** The employees and patrons of a grocery store have been asked to move outside the store into the open air, out of an abundance of caution, as firefighters investigate what appears to be a ruptured refrigeration line that allowed a small amount of residual vapor to escape from the system in a back room of the store. LAFD has cut power to the store for safety while working around the equipment, while investigation and store ventilation efforts are underway.
