The fire extended up the walls of the building and damaged six units. Five of those units will not be habitable. LADWP is evaluating the situation and has not yet determined an ETA for repairing the electrical panels to safely restore power. Los Angeles Red Cross is responding to assist with the displaced residents (Five adult males, three adult females and one child). LAFD Arson is on scene conducting the cause investigation. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0170; 04:50AM; 8525 N Tobias Av; https://bit.ly/3JJPLKe; Panorama City; KNOCKDOWN: After an extensive operation searching out fire traveling vertically within the walls, 92 firefighters fully extinguished the fire in one hour and 47 mins . The building has two separate power systems which will allow for the power to be shut off to the affected panel feeding the Bravo (south) side of the building and leave power available on the Delta (north) side. Officers are making the determination as to which units are no longer safe for occupancy and how many residents need to be re-housed. (official knockdown not yet declared). The fire started near the electrical panels which has compromised the electrical system in the building. LADWP is shutting down power to the building, which holds approximately 100 units. Crews are on each level, using Thermal Imaging Cameras to locate hot spots while the truck companies have created ventilation holes and are able to assist in locating pockets of fire. This is an extended operation as the size of the building requires large number of firefighters to break through and open walls to locate the fire. No injuries reported. Crews are now working their way up the building to locate the fire and check for any extension. Two additional resources requested to assist due to the size of the structure. No injuries reported. Update Rescue; INC#0730; 12:45PM; 3363 N Coldwater Canyon Av; https://bit.ly/3rdHYxC; #ShermanOaks; Despite the rapid response of 39 LAFD Firefighters, including those specially trained, equipped and certified for Urban Search & Rescue operations, who utilized a Truck mounted aerial ladder, rope and harness system to safely extricate the adult male tree trimmer (trapped 50' above ground in an upside down position for an unknown time period), the man, now at ground level, has sadly been determined beyond medical help and is deceased at the scene. His affiliation with the site, and employer is unknown. Though energized electrical wires were in or near the (unknown type) tree, their role, if any, in the man's death is presently unknown.
