Update Structure Fire; INC#1068; 07:11PM; 7056 N Van Nuys Bl; https://bit.ly/3yzNr5A; Van Nuys; While an official "Knockdown" has not yet been declared, the Incident Commander had the incident timer (tracking the length of the incident) turned off as they continue to dismantle the building with the heavy equipment so they can fully extinguish all small pockets of fire. There were no further injuries reported (one firefighter transported in fair condition with a (non-traumatic) medical complaint (heat exhaustion). LAFD Arson section is conducting the investigation per protocol for an incident of this size. Crews will remain on scene throughout the night and there will be visible flames on the debris pile which will be controlled - there is no need to be concerned or contact 9-1-1. One firefighter is being evaluated and transported for a non-life threatening medical complaint (no trauma injury). Firefighters have successfully contained the blaze to the fire building of origin, defending the two adjacent buildings. There is heavy smoke blanketing the area and neighbors are advised to remain indoors with doors/windows closed. Power was shut off to the block which caused 'stuck elevators' in a nearby assisted living facility. A full task force (10 firefighters) is at the facility handling the situation. The media staging is established at Van Nuys x Vose St with Captain Jacob Raabe #mediastaging #mediaalert This will continue to be an extended operation due to the amount of fire and accessing those pockets to achieve full extinguishment. Firefighters are in the defensive mode. An emergency traffic was issued when the facade of the main building collapse. Firefighters had already established a 30' collapse zone and there were no injuries reported. There are exposed structures on both the Bravo (North) and Delta (South) side of the building. The structural integrity of the wall on the Delta side is compromised (no collapse as of now).
