River Rescue 02/05/2024 INC#1523

River Rescue; INC#1523; 02:45PM; 17 Pacoima Wash; #Sylmar; Firefighters responded to bystander reports that a man jumped in the flowing water in pursuit of his dog. Crews responded to several bridges and access points down river and located the canine, who had managed to swim safely to the edge and escape the rapids. LAFD Air Ops lowered a rescuer into the water, who was able to grab the patient, who was still conscious. They were hoisted into the aircraft, and transported to the local hospital by air. His dog was taken to a local shelter for temporary care for minor injuries. There were no other victims in the water, related to this incident. Crews have searched up and down the river from Arleta to Downtown LA, and beyond (LA County FD responded to search beyond the LA City limits). Fire crews were never able to visually confirm a victim was in the water. Crews are picking up and clearing the incident. All nine homes on Lockridge Rd have been evacuated (including pets), and LAPD/EMD are working together to offer emergency shelter locations to residents (if needed). Department of Building and Safety is on scene evaluating the situation. DWP and Gas Company are assessing impacted utilities in the area. Firefighters are assisting residents from at least six homes with evacuation, in case further soil instability causes another flow nearby. LAFD Heavy Equipment is on scene to assist with soil/debris. Thankfully, no one was injured, however residents will be displaced. Red Cross has been notified to assist. Traffic-related Water Rescue 02/04/2024 INC#1229

Traffic-related Water Rescue; INC#1229; 06:22PM; 19000 W Oxnard St; https://maps.app.goo.gl/LqWqMB2561WZs9h79; #Tarzana; Several vehicles are disabled in 2-3 feet of water at the intersection of Oxnard St and Donna Ave (and flooding extending between Wilbur and Tampa). No reported injuries, and thankfully the vehicle occupants have remained in their vehicles and not risked going out into the deep water with unpredictable terrain and currents below the surface. LAFD Swiftwater Teams are preparing to send a watercraft out to the vehicles to bring the occupants to safety. ROAD CLOSURE: Due to the flooding, Oxnard will be closed between Wilbur and Tampa. This may result in wider impacts to the immediate area for commuters.
