KNOCKDOWN - FATALITY Structure Fire - FATALITY; INC#0938; 02:10PM; 2353 S Portland St; https://bit.ly/4h8PNh2; University Park; KNOCKDOWN: 47 firefighters quickly located and extinguished fire in one unit on the 2nd floor of a (mixed) three-story apartment building (updated from two-story). While conducting a primary search during their fire attack, firefighters located a victim in the involved unit. Unfortunately, the individual was beyond medical help and determined dead on scene. LAFD Arson is responding for the cause investigation per protocol for a fatality fire. Victim identification and cause of death will be determined by the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner. Firefighters made access to the building's electrical panel and located a small fire, achieving knockdown in 11 minutes. LADWP has been requested for an arcing power pole identified on scene. Major Emergency Structure Fire - Now Out; INC#0274; 04:37AM; 501 W 190th St; https://bit.ly/46Wzlga; #HarborGateway; A fire involving a electric vehicle within a 21,000 square foot two-story vehicle manufacturing facility in an industrial area was extinguished in 40 minutes (5:17 AM) without injury. No evacuation was required. The specific cause and origin of the fire is under active investigation. A Department of Building & Safety Inspector will evaluate the integrity of the structure in the vicinity of the fire, due to physical compromise from an apparent explosion that took place prior to firefighter's arrival. Four occupants are displaced and one dog was rescued from the incident. LAFD Arson is responding to assist the Incident Commander with the cause determination. Gas meter readings around the adjacent building are low and do not represent a threat. All residents were safely and efficiently evacuated out of an abundance of caution. It is a static situation with SoCal Gas supervisor on scene, coordinating the shut off of the line.
