The patient was unrelated to this incident). 4 patients (3 males and 1 female) were customers at 2 nearby businesses when the explosion occurred. All were evaluated on scene and declined transportation. Approximately 1/2 mile radius from the incident expected to have power outages. The office building appears to have suffered only cosmetic damage and no structural compromise. The building is being evacuated (unknown number of persons) out of precaution. No fire involved. Fatality Fire; 03:48AM; 1103 S Sycamore Av; https://goo.gl/maps/DKXusHfNRPH2; #MidWilshire; PRELIM: Two story 4271 sq ft residential duplex with fire in 1st floor unit; two older adult male relatives living in the burning unit were apparently alerted by functional smoke alarms, though the 88 year-old uncle escaped with smoke inhalation, his 75 year-old nephew was found in grave condition among excessive storage inside the 85 year old building, which was not equipped with optional residential fire sprinklers; Both men were taken to an area hospital, where the nephew died, and the uncle remains in serious condition; 35 FF's took 16 min to extinguish the blaze, which was confined to the downstairs unit; The four occupants of the upstairs unit, who called 9-1-1 after being awakened by their functional smoke alarms, were not injured, and are expected to return to their minimally damaged residence; A positive identification of the dead man, as well as the specific cause, time and manner of his death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, which has yet to arrive at the scene; Monetary loss from the fire is still being tabulated; The cause of the fire remains under active investigation; An LAFD PIO is at the scene to assist the media; FS 68; Batt 18; South Bureau; Council District 10; Dispatched Units: E261 E61 T61 E68 RA68 E229 T29 RA829 BC18 E26 RA61 EM11 PH1 AR2; CH:7; - Brian Humphrey
