They found no hazards and confirmed there were no leaks. All air readings (via handheld gas meter) were normal. Only the initial patient (as per first alert) was transported, there were no other injuries reported. Most LAFD resources will be released while one task force remains to oversee the re-population of the building. Any further questions regarding the incident are referred to USC Department of Public Safety. One patient (age/gender/affiliation unknown at this time) is being evaluated for injuries - they evacuated the building and met the LAFD outside on their own. The involved products or process have not been identified. The building is being evacuated and the LAFD HazMat task force is being requested for a thorough investigation. Firefighters quickly extinguished what was left of the detached structure and protected the nearby buildings being exposed to intense heat. Ultimately, it took 18 firefighters 17 minutes (5:52am) to extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. Firefighters arrived on scene and found there was no confined space rescue or physical extrication required (as previously reported). Firefighters/Paramedics initiated resuscitative measures, but sadly, the man was beyond medical help. Crews determined him to be dead on scene. The details surrounding the event are currently unclear. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0086; 02:50AM; 719 W 41st St; https://bit.ly/3wqGsdV; Vermont Square; It took 34 firefighters 61 minutes to extinguish the stubborn attic fire. After beginning in offensive mode on the well-developed attic fire, crews were forced to pull back into defensive mode when the integrity of the roof became questionable. Crews fought from the exterior until flames remained only in an area that structural integrity was not compromised. Shortly after resuming offensive mode, crews were able to extinguish all flames. No reported injuries. Structure Fire Now Out; INC#1594; 10:15PM; 104 S Orange Dr; https://bit.ly/3iSOUQ3; #HancockPark; 38 Firefighters took just 27 minutes (10:42 PM) to access, confine and fully extinguish heavy fire within a two-story residential duplex. The well coordinated efforts of LAFD crews prevented intense flames from damaging two adjacent homes. One resident with minor injury declined care. The American Red Cross will be assisting 8 of the 9 adults displaced by the fire, which heavily damaged the structure.
