KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0447; 09:07AM; 1783 E 45th St; https://bit.ly/3XPYZgw; #CentralAlameda; The first 40 LAFD firefighters to arrive, along with LA County FD companies, extinguished the flames in 19 minutes. An outside fire extended in to a metal-clad building. Thankfully, fire sprinklers limited the ability for the fire to grow. Firefighters will remain on scene to mitigate water damage from the sprinklers and fire hose use, and restore the sprinkler system to be ready to protect the building for a future hazard. No reported injuries. Firefighters began in defensive operations, knocked down the bulk of the intense flames, and transitioned to an offensive attack to complete the suppression efforts in 20 minutes (6:12am). Thrown a distance, he landed partially beneath but was not trapped by another vehicle exiting a shopping center parking lot. The man was determined deceased and remains at the scene. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0082; 02:57AM; 4163 S Broadway St; https://bit.ly/44ldFWQ; Historic South-Central; Over 80 firefighters extinguished this Greater Alarm fire in one hour and 33 minutes with no injuries reported. There are hot spots and small pockets of fire remaining which will be held in check while the RS3 robotic firefighting vehicle is prepared for deployment and makes entry. The structural instability renders it unsafe for firefighters to complete extinguishment with an interior attack. LAFD Arson is on scene for the investigation, per protocol for a fire of this magnitude.
