It took 36 firefighters 15 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames, keeping it contained to the room-of-origin. Crews will set up blowers to evacuate the smoke out of the building. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0445; 09:11AM; 115 E Av 39; https://bit.ly/48Mq6Oo; #HighlandPark; Firefighters found a two-story home with fire on the second floor and extending into the attic. Crews advanced fire attack hose lines inside the structure, as ventilation crews cut holes in the roof to allow heat and smoke to escape. Ultimately, it took 34 firefighters 20 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. The fire *appeared* to have started near a space heater. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0385; 08:22AM; 1069 W 6th St; https://bit.ly/48F4RxO; #Westlake; Firefighters ascended the stairwell of the four-story vacant office building and located a trash fire on the third floor. The flames were extinguished quickly, but smoke had made its way throughout the building. Crews will remain on scene using blowers to systematically evacuate the smoke from the building room by room, and remove any remaining smoldering materials. It took 48 firefighters 33 minutes to access and extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. Crews located a storage closet/structure inside the building with stored building materials on fire, which burned up through the roof in one location and damaged some large structural components. Ultimately, it took 68 firefighters 26 minutes to extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. Structure Fire - Now Out; INC#0252; 05:35AM; 501 E 7th St; https://bit.ly/48IdDuA; #Downtown; Thanks to prompt LAFD notification by the building's fire alarm monitoring service, Los Angeles Firefighters arrived quickly at a 6 story center-hallway style apartment building to find fire within one third floor unit. The first arriving 30 LAFD personnel took just 17 minutes (5:52 AM) to access, confine and fully extinguish the flames, holding the blaze within the apartment of origin. The 69 year-old male resident of the involved unit sustained severe (second-degree) burn injury to 30% of his body, and has been taken by LAFD Paramedics to a regional burn care facility in critical condition. No other injuries have been reported. The Los Angeles Fire Department reminds local residents that not all building fire alarm systems are monitored. Anyone who witnesses evidence of fire, or a ringing fire alarm, should act promptly to escape harm, and never hesitate to call 9-1-1 immediately to assure the fire department is aware and responding.
