Update Knockdown Structure Fire; INC#1575; 09:07PM; 3251 W Larga Av; https://bit.ly/2XM2Iy8; Atwater Village; First arriving firefighters took just 16 minutes to extinguish flames within a 1,063 square-foot one story home, built 1926, that contained excessive personal storage. Though there was no human injury - the resident and sole occupant was able to escape unscathed, her pet cat was sadly discovered by firefighters to be lifeless in a smoke charged portion of the the residence, and beyond veterinary assistance. The home was not equipped with optional residential fire sprinklers, and there was no immediate evidence of a functional smoke alarm as required by law. Update Knockdown Brush Fire; INC#1275; 06:48PM; 2501 N Onyx Dr; https://bit.ly/2XS7VVv; Lincoln Heights; LAFD ground and air response (95 personnel) assisted by LACoFD hand crews took less than 1 hour to extinguish all active flame, holding the fire to three (3) acres of light to medium brush. No injury. Though homes were threatened, the well-coordinated air and ground assault prevented any from sustaining damage. There were no evacuations. On arrival, firefighters found a two story, single family dwelling well involved in fire. Crews worked to quickly extinguish the fire and conduct an interior search, which found the building clear of occupants. Cause and $ loss TBD. Update Structure Fire; INC#1070; 05:02PM; 815 S Kohler St; https://bit.ly/30jT3kc; Downtown; KNOCKDOWN: 112 firefighters extinguished the fire in 1 hour and 41 minutes. Due to the structural compromise and the extensive amount of goods inside the building, heavy equipment will be required to help clear debris so the hot spots can be extinguished. This will be an extended duration operation with crews on scene throughout the night. Please continue to avoid the area. There were no injuries reported and the adjacent building was defended from any damage. Update Structure Fire; INC#1070; 04:20PM; 815 S Kohler St; https://bit.ly/30jT3kc; Downtown; Firefighters have extinguished the bulk of the fire while in the defensive mode. The exposed building at one end was defended from any damage. There is extensive roof collapse and one portion of a wall is buckling, which will prevent any interior firefighting. Once a knockdown is declared, it will be an extended duration overhaul operation due to the amount of contents inside the building (doing business as a produce market). Due to the extreme fire conditions, crews are getting water on the fire from the exterior prior to making an interior attack. There are multiple bays within this structure which have heavy fire. No injuries reported.
