Resources on scene reporting this to be a marijuana grow operation and the large air conditioning unit has fallen through the roof. There are no injuries reported. LAFD Hazardous Materials squad is responding to assist due to the discovery of bottles of unknown chemicals/gases inside the structure by the fire attack crews. Update Structure Fire; INC#0160; 08:19AM; 801 S Crocker St; https://bit.ly/36YMxCD; Downtown; KNOCKDOWN: Over 130 firefighters achieved a full extinguishment of the fire in just over 3 1/2 hours. Firefighters worked tirelessly to prevent the fire from further extension and to save exposed businesses. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening heat related illness. No other injuries reported. LAFD Arson Section is actively investigating the cause of the fire based on protocols due to the size of the incident. Crews will remain on scene throughout the morning for an extensive overhaul operation. Update Structure Fire; INC#0160; 06:19AM; 801 S Crocker St; https://bit.ly/36YMxCD; Downtown; There are two commercial units involved and the incident is working with two branches. Branch 1 is the original fire unit and crews remain in the offensive mode working to defend the unit and save it. Branch 2 is the building to the east where the fire extended. This unit has heavy fire through the roof and crews are in a defensive operation. Crews are establishing heavy streams with ladder pipes and handlines both at the entrance and to the roof from atop adjacent structures. To summarize - Branch 1 is Offensive and Branch 2 is Defensive. There are no injuries reported. LAFD Arson Section is on scene (per protocol) to investigate the cause once it is safe to do so. LAFD PIOs Captain Erik Scott and Firefighter David Ortiz are enroute for media availability.
