No damage or injuries were reported and normal operational mode is resumed. Earthquake Mode ; INC#0367; 07:04AM; 450 E Temple; Downtown; The USGS preliminary report is a 3.9M earthquake struck the area of Maywood CA (near Vernon) at 7:01AM. The LAFD is now in earthquake mode. All 106 neighborhood fire stations will conduct a strategic survey of their districts, examining all major areas of concern (eg transportation infrastructures, large places of assemblages, apartment buildings, power-lines, etc). This survey will be conducted from the ground, air and water. Once this process is complete and reports are consolidated, assuming there is no significant damage, Earthquake mode will be complete. This process typically takes less than one hour. There are currently no initial reports of structural damage or injuries. Sink Hole 10/22/2021 INC#0369

Sink Hole; INC#0369; 08:13AM; 567 S Mission Rd; https://bit.ly/3E16mGK; Boyle Heights; LAFD responded to a large sink hole where, thankfully, there were no injuries. However, as the hole expanded, a vehicle near the edge was at risk of falling in and colliding with gas lines below. LAFD Heavy Rescue 3 responded and recovered the vehicle before it potentially caused a greater hazard. Crews will remain on scene to ensure public safety. DWP and Gas Company have been notified. Update Structure Fire Fatality 10/21/2021 INC#0261

Update Fatality Structure Fire; INC#0261; 06:29AM; 2879 W 14th St; https://bit.ly/3pkpGe5; Harvard Heights; There were a total of six patients: Four civilians at the home were medically evaluated, however, declined transport to the hospital. The fifth patient was a 22 year old male found in an upstairs bedroom, tragically beyond medical help, and was determined dead at the scene. The sixth patient was a firefighter who suffered a non-life threatening injury and was transported to a local hospital. There were security bars on the first floor windows, however they did not appear to impede egress. The residence had smoke alarms, but their functional status was not immediately known. It is important to note that smoke alarms are critical for the early detection of a fire in your home and could mean the difference between life and death. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
