First arriving LAFD personnel discovered balcony contents burning on 15th floor of 17 story, 1,803 unit Angelus Plaza (senior living) residential high rise. Fire was held in check by fire sprinkler/s and extinguished by same on LAFD arrival at apartment unit. No injury. Fire was through the roof upon LAFD arrival. Relentless defensive firefighting operations prevented damage to the businesses that adjoined this mid-block structure. There have been no injuries. Firefighters prevented any signficant damage to at least two adjacent businesses. There have been no injuries. Fire cause under active investigation. Update KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0151; 03:33AM; 328 E 18th St; http://bit.ly/2URPs84; Downtown; This commercial building contained clothing and boxes with excessive storage conditions. Fire attack searched for the seat of the fire in heavy smoke conditions in the large building, eventually finding it and extinguishing it, with assistance from the ventilation group on the roof to help with smoke conditions. Fire sprinklers kept the flames from spreading through the rest of the building. Overall, 55 firefighters took 49 minutes to fully extinguish the fire. No reported injuries.
