Crews advanced fire attack hose lines inside the structure, as ventilation crews cut holes in the roof to allow heat and smoke to escape. Ultimately, it took 34 firefighters 20 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. The fire *appeared* to have started near a space heater. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0385; 08:22AM; 1069 W 6th St; https://bit.ly/48F4RxO; #Westlake; Firefighters ascended the stairwell of the four-story vacant office building and located a trash fire on the third floor. The flames were extinguished quickly, but smoke had made its way throughout the building. Crews will remain on scene using blowers to systematically evacuate the smoke from the building room by room, and remove any remaining smoldering materials. It took 48 firefighters 33 minutes to access and extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. Crews located a storage closet/structure inside the building with stored building materials on fire, which burned up through the roof in one location and damaged some large structural components. Ultimately, it took 68 firefighters 26 minutes to extinguish the flames. No reported injuries.
