Update KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0340; 07:29AM; 245 N Soto St; https://bit.ly/4mOxTTi; Boyle Heights; ***Updated address 229 N Soto St*** Primary and secondary searches of the apartment were clear, no occupants were found. Due to the heavy smoke conditions in the second floor hallway, firefighters instructed residents to shelter in place while they completed fire extinguishment and smoke removal. A knockdown was declared at 0743 hrs, after a 14 minute firefight by 36 firefighters. Units will remain on scene to perform salvage operations, smoke removal and resident "re-housing" (releasing residents from shelter in place orders when safe to do so). No injuries were reported. One patient (unknown age and/or gender) was extricated from a vehicle and determined deceased and beyond medical assistance. A second patient (unknown age and/or gender) was evaluated paramedics and declined LAFD transport to a local hospital. LAPD Hollenbeck will handle the investigation. Units are mitigating any further runoff by diking the flow and containing the leak. No injuries are reported.
