Due to the heavy smoke conditions in the second floor hallway, firefighters instructed residents to shelter in place while they completed fire extinguishment and smoke removal. A knockdown was declared at 0743 hrs, after a 14 minute firefight by 36 firefighters. Units will remain on scene to perform salvage operations, smoke removal and resident "re-housing" (releasing residents from shelter in place orders when safe to do so). No injuries were reported. One patient (unknown age and/or gender) was extricated from a vehicle and determined deceased and beyond medical assistance. Units are mitigating any further runoff by diking the flow and containing the leak. No injuries are reported.
