KNOCKDOWN Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#0111; 03:18AM; 1001 E 27th St; https://bit.ly/3yqbQNJ; #HistoricSouthCentral; Firefighters arrived to find a vacant church building (site of a previous burn) fully involved with fire. Crews developed hose lines from the exterior, in defensive mode, due to the uncertain structural stability of the dilapidated building, which sustained partial collapses at times during the fire fight. Ultimately, it took 66 firefighters 38 minutes to complete extinguishment of the intense flames. No reported injuries. The fire was contained to a single unit, with surrounding units protected from any fire extension. No injuries were reported, though all 24 units have been evacuated after residents initially sheltered in place. Berendo Street and 3rd Street will be closed to traffic in the vicinity for approximately one hour.
