Firefighters have located lithium-ion battery(ies) (number unknown) off-gassing and are staying clear of the hazard while mopping up any remaining hot spots. LAFD HazMat is responding. Earthquake Mode ; INC#1612; 09:14PM; https://bit.ly/3wjsDl6; A preliminary magnitude 5.3 earthquake occurred at 9:09 PM PDT, centered near Mettler, California, 89 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. Pursuant to protocol, the LAFD is now in earthquake mode, as personnel from all 106 neighborhood fire stations conduct a strategic survey by land, air and sea of their districts, examining critical infrastructure and areas of local concern across our 470 square mile City of Los Angeles jurisdiction. Once this process is complete and reports are consolidated, assuming there is no significant damage, LAFD Earthquake Mode will be complete. This process typically takes less than one hour. There are currently no initial reports of structural damage or injuries. An update will be provided once LAFD Earthquake Mode is complete. Though no additional earthquake activity is predicted, firefighters ask you to prepare for any aftershock. If inside when shaking starts: Drop, Cover, Hold On! Protect your head and neck while taking cover under sturdy furniture or near a sturdy interior wall, away from windows and doorways until the shaking stops. Complete - Odor Investigation; INC#0450; 10:10AM; 855 N Vermont Av; https://bit.ly/3WsGrT9; #EastHollywood; LAFD firefighters, including hazardous materials specialists, have concluded their odor investigation at the two-story Science Tech Lab at Los Angeles City College. No specific hazard was identified. One college staff member (adult male Building Engineer) who was in or near the involved classroom prior to LAFD arrival, received an on-site medical evaluation by LAFD Paramedics for non-specific symptoms, and has declined further treatment or ambulance transportation. No other illness or injury has been reported. The fifteen (15) building occupants who were earlier evacuated, are being allowed to re-enter the building. Media Inquiries: L.A.
