Update Structure Fire; INC#1223; 06:48PM; 1419 S Long Beach Av; http://bit.ly/2AtEPjk; Downtown; Firefighters are making good progress against this large blaze. Fire remains in areas difficult to reach with the heavy streams. Firefighters are working to hit them with hand lines while remaining in safe locations. Over 140 FFs on assigned to this Major Emergency incident. No injuries reported. Any media on scene, staging is on Long Beach, south of Newton. PIO Captain Branden Silverman available. Update Structure Fire; INC#1223; 05:35PM; 1419 S Long Beach Av; http://bit.ly/2AtEPjk; Downtown; This is now a Major Emergency Structure Fire with over 136FF on scene. The structure is a mid-block commercial building with exposures on three sides. Firefighters are working to ensure the fire does not extend into those structures while battling the fire in a defensive mode. There are wires down, creating a hazard and DWP is responding. LAFD Arson enroute for the investigation. PIO Captain Branden Silverman is onscene at the Command Post (Long Beach x South of Newton) for any media inquires. What was initially deemed a partial wall collapse was further updated to 'stucco coming off the wall' but no damage to the structural integrity of the wall. Partial wall collapse on the back/right (C/D) corner. Incident Commander pulling all firefighters out of the structure and off the room and moving to a defensive mode. This incident is now at a Greater Alarm status with over 90 firefighters assigned. Firefighters conducted a long battle and successfully prevented a stubborn wall fire from moving into a large, working attic fire. Firefighters now moving room to room to ensure no smoke remains in any of the units. No injuries reported. LAFD Arson will investigate the cause of the fire per protocol for a Major Emergency incident.
