Fatality Fire 01/22/2026 INC#1540

Fatality Fire; INC#1540; 07:40PM; 701 S Soto St; https://bit.ly/3LWtBLP; Boyle Heights; LAFD Firefighters arrived quickly to a 1 story single family dwelling with heavy smoke showing. The fire was determined to be an outside fire which exposed one side of the house. It took 37 firefighters 19 minutes to locate and extinguish the fire. Upon primary search, firefighters discovered one person (undetermined age / gender) deceased. No other persons injured. No further details. Fire and specific cause of death under active investigation. Firefighters investigated and found fire in the first-floor trash room -- crews coordinated to extinguish all flames, assess fire damage on the floor above, and shut down sprinklers. Fire Out Structure Fire 01/12/2026 INC#0872

Update Fire Out Structure Fire; INC#0872; 12:08PM; 815 E 12th St; https://bit.ly/49oWbwU; Downtown; First arriving units report a one story commercial building at the intersection, with light smoke coming from the rear of the building. Initial calls reported a possible explosion. After investigating the new construction property, the cause of smoke is undermined. Arson units are responding to investigate. After initial reports of an injured/burned person, firefighter's were unable to locate a patient at the location. An additional call for a 36M suffering from burn injuries was received, with a location multiple blocks from the fire. It is unknown at this time if the two incidents are related. LAPD INC #2287.
