Firefighters proceeded in defensive mode (without making entry into the structure) in the interest of safety; collapse of second floor occurred just prior to knockdown with no injuries to personnel. Exposed structures successfully defended, with fire fully extinguished in 23 minutes by first-arriving companies. Building and Safety notified and en route — firefighters remain on scene for overhaul. Though a large volume of smoke was found within the building, firefighters were successful in preventing fire damage to the structure. No injury.
