Safe Surrender 10/10/2019 INC#1440

Safe Surrender; INC#1440; 07:40AM; 2401 W Pico Bl; http://bit.ly/2OwdNiM; Pico-Union; At 7:36PM on October 8, 2019 a 21F brought her newborn infant to Fire Station 13 to surrender the child. Firefighters took custody of the baby and performed a patient assessment, finding it in good health. The child was then transported to the hospital. The Safe Surrender law took effect in Jan 2001. The law's intent is to save lives of newborn infants at risk of abandonment by encouraging parents or persons with lawful custody to safely surrender the infant within 72 hours of birth, with no questions asked. Boarded-up windows initially concealed the fire, which was mostly contained within the attic. Firefighters forced entry and chased down the flames. No reported injuries. Knockdown Structure Fire; INC#0831; 02:46PM; 1425 S San Pedro St; http://bit.ly/2OjFJWU; Downtown; Address corrected from 1232 to 1425. It took 123 Los Angeles Firefighters just 52 minutes to fully extinguish heavy fire in what is now described as a 250' x 100' L-shaped Los Angeles Unified School District warehouse facility. Though there was automotive/bus repair taking place on the same property, LAUSD tells us that the only involved building was a warehouse. There was no school at the location or nearby, and no students were involved. No injuries were reported. The fire cause remains under investigation. Monetary loss is still being tabulated. Update Structure Fire; INC#0831; 02:20PM; 1232 S San Pedro St; http://bit.ly/30KWI72; Downtown; Address remains tentative. PRELIM: There are 123 LAFD personnel now assigned to the fire, at an approximately 100' x 150' one story (automotive - possibly school bus depot?) well involved with fire. Eleven minutes into the firefight (2:08 PM), a transition was made to defensive operations. No injury reported.
