Update KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0578; 11:03AM; 351 N Cornwell St; http://bit.ly/2NAMpPO; Boyle Heights; The first 32 firefighters skillfully defeated the fireball that was consuming a structure (50' x 50' living space) in the rear of the property in just 15 minutes. Firefighters worked from the outside in, knocking down the flames from the yard, while transitioning smoothly to an interior attack and simultaneous interior search for potential victims. Primary and secondary (a double-check with fresh eyes) searches revealed no victims inside. No reported injuries. LAFD arrived to find a 6,466 sq-ft one-story commercial building with fire through the roof. Firefighters initially used defensive tactics to knock back much of the fire, before making entry to finish off the remaining flames. 74 firefighters extinguished the blaze in 34 minutes with no reported injuries. Building and safety notified to assess structural damage. Update KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#1532; 10:28PM; 831 S Westlake Av; http://bit.ly/2J5BkUE; Westlake; Firefighters arrived to find a two-story living space (structure) in the rear of a multi-family residence, with fire through the roof. LAFD employed defensive tactics at first, drowning the fire from the outside. By the time the flames were knocked back enough to enter the structure, the integrity of the roof and second floor were in question, making this a more extended operation to finish off the flames above the ground floor. 53 firefighters extinguished the fire in 47 minutes and will remain on scene for an extended overhaul of the structure. LAFD protected all surrounding structures from the heat and flames. No reported injuries.
