Update Injured Animal Update - Structure Fire; INC#1447; 08:00PM; 812 N Virgil Av; https://bit.ly/3x43EhL; #EastHollywood; *Correction* on injured animal tally: LAFD Firefighters rescued a total of fourteen (14) animals (9 dogs and 5 cats) in varying levels of distress, from the smoke-charged premises. All nine (9) dogs. and three (3) cats survived after being provided oxygen by face mask, and were entrusted to the care of the City's Department of Animal Services. Two (2) of the rescued cats sadly proved beyond medical help and were determined dead at the scene. No human injuries were reported. Structure Fire - Now Out; INC#1447; 06:18PM; 812 N Virgil Av; https://bit.ly/3x43EhL; #EastHollywood; 38 LAFD Firefighters took just 25 minutes to access, confine and fully extinguish (6:43 PM) a small contents fire within "Pet Joy" (a yet undetermined type pet business) in a row of one-story commercial occupancies. Firefighters performed a simultaneous search during fire attack, to rescue fifteen (15) animals from within the heavily smoke-charged premises. Sadly 2 dogs and 2 cats proved beyond medical help and perished at the scene. LAFD Firefighters are providing comfort and medical assistance, including oxygen via face mask to the remaining eight (8) dogs and three (3) cats, all of whom were exposed to smoke. Responders from the City's Department of Animal Services are en route to provide additional care and support (ETA 7:15 PM). No human injuries have been reported. The fire was held to approximately one acre with no structures damaged. Crews will remain in the area conducting mop up operations to ensure no hot spots remain. Firefighters entered the structure to chase hot spots and gain final extinguishment. It took 32 firefighters 48 minutes to access, confine and extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. Firefighters entered the structure to gather belongings and cover them, in anticipation of the water to be deployed above in the attic space. Crews ascended ladders to the roof and coordinated with companies below for timely rooftop ventilation. It took 36 firefighters 25 minutes to extinguish the flames, containing the damage to the structure of origin. No reported injuries.
