Update Structure Fire; INC#0978; 05:40PM; 1537 W 8th St; https://bit.ly/2ZRFx5Y; Westlake; A summary (with some updates to previous alerts) of the buildings involved and the damage sustained: Original fire unit is a one story (tall) with attic craftsman style single family dwelling which sustained significant damage from a well involved attic fire. The "B side" exposure (west side) is a two story four plex (originally thought to be a center hall apartment building) in which firefighters defended all the living space of the building. The fire extended into a portion of the attic and eaves but the units themselves were saved from the fire. The third structure is a small commercial building that is an add-on to the rear of the original fire unit. It appeared to be converted into a living space and sustained significant damage. One male LAFD firefighter was transported in fair condition with non-life threatening burn injuries limited to one arm. Per protocol, LAFD Arson investigators are on scene to conduct a cause investigation.
