Due to the heavy smoke conditions in the second floor hallway, firefighters instructed residents to shelter in place while they completed fire extinguishment and smoke removal. A knockdown was declared at 0743 hrs, after a 14 minute firefight by 36 firefighters. Units will remain on scene to perform salvage operations, smoke removal and resident "re-housing" (releasing residents from shelter in place orders when safe to do so). No injuries were reported.
