KNOCKDOWN Semi-trailer Collision and Fire; INC#0797; 12:17PM; SB 5 x 405; https://bit.ly/3Ux2lUy; #GranadaHills; 80 firefighters spent 38 minutes in a coordinated effort to confine and extinguish flames in one of two semi-trailers involved in this collision on the southbound 5 Freeway, just north of the 405 transition. One male driver successfully escaped his burning cab, and passing motorists stopped to help extinguish the flames on his clothes and body. Upon LAFD arrival, he was transported by rescue ambulance to a local trauma center with critical burns. No other injuries or patients were reported, as the other semi-trailer was parked on the shoulder with no occupants at the time of the collision. While foam was used to extinguish the fire, fuel and oil runoff was contained to the immediate area and then remediated, preventing any further threat to immediate surroundings or storm drains.
