Investigation 04/23/2021 INC#0814

Investigation; INC#0814; 02:45PM; 200 N Pacific Ave; https://bit.ly/3tPpfYx; San Pedro; An LAFD Battalion Command fleet vehicle was stolen while parked in the downtown Los Angeles area shortly before 2:00 PM today. Because the one ton pickup truck, like all LAFD fleet vehicles, was equipped with a GPS transponder, it was instantly tracked in real-time, allowing law enforcement agencies to initiate a strategic following. LAPD patrol officers safely stopped the vehicle in a parking lot near the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Santa Cruz Street in San Pedro, and took the driver into custody. There are no reports of injuries, and at this time it appears that only one or more tires of the command vehicle were damaged. The vehicle will be thoroughly examined and receive any necessary repairs before being returned to emergency duty. The circumstances of the theft will be jointly investigated by LAFD and LAPD officials. Media Inquiries regarding the theft, suspect and pursuit, should be directed to LAPD (Incident #2472); FS 112; Batt 6; South Bureau; Council District 15; BC1; CH7; Brian Humphrey
