STOP THE BLEED: Pressure dressing

Pressure dressing:

The #1 cause of preventable death after injury is bleeding. Severe bleeding can lead to death in as little as 5 minutes, thus, you must act quickly by utilizing a method known as the ABCs and a pressure dressing:

  • Alert: Call 9-1-1, or have someone call for you, and make your emergency known to the call-taker. Put the phone on speaker as you apply first aid to the victim.
  • Bleeding: Locate the source of the bleeding. Remove any clothing covering the affected area.
  • Compress: In order to stop the bleeding, you must apply pressure to the wound. If a first aid kit is available, utilize a pressure dressing found inside. If not, then use a clean cloth or towel.

Then, follow these steps:

  1. Apply the dressing to the wound and press down hard.
  2. Do not remove the dressing if blood soaks through, instead, add another dressing on top and continue applying pressure.
  3. Continue until help arrives.

By utilizing these steps, you can effectively provide first aid and help to Stop The Bleed.
