Operational Fire Permits

 

The Office of Finance is responsible for collecting fees for Operational Permits. 

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) is responsible for the inspection and enforcement of regulations. 

New Business Owners

  • Submit a "Business Tax Registration Certificate (BTRC) Application" FORM to the Office of Finance
    • New Business Registration Requirements can be found HERE
      • Note: Tax Registration Certificate are not transferable. If a business is sold or transferred, a new Tax Registration Certificate is required. 
  • With a valid BTRC, customers can apply for a Fire Permit. The steps are:
    1. Schedule an appointment with the Office of Finance HERE
    2. Their Public Counter will prepare a Business Referral Slip with the following information:
      • Legal Name and Account Number
      • Type of Fire Permit & Fee
      • Type of Business
      • Address of Business
      • Legal Description
    3. Customer then takes the Referral Slip form to the Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety (LADBS) Zoning Section
      • LADBS signs and stamps Referral Slip 
    4. Customer will then bring signed-off Referral Slip back to the Office of Finance Public Counter to pay the fire permit fee
    5. Office of Finance completes Authorization Form that will be sent to LAFD
    6. A Fire Inspector conducts an inspection of the business and either GRANTS or DENIES permit via Admin Staff
    7. Once LAFD grants permit on database, Office of Finance will mail out permit. 

Fire Permit Renewals

  • Fire Permit Renewal payments are due December 31st
    • Can be paid in person, through mail, or online
