Update Structure Fire; INC#1062; 04:25PM; 1119 W Hewitt St; http://bit.ly/2QOFbt6; San Fernando; No one was home in the structure (secondary residence to the rear of the property) that burned, however a functional smoke alarm in that living space is what alerted a neighbor, who called 9-1-1 and contributed to firefighters being able to arrive in time to save all surrounding structures. Sadly, there was one canine home at the time, who ultimately perished during the fire. Starbucks and Subway will be temporarily closed down, as an LAFD Hazardous Materials Squad responds with more sophisticated sensing equipment. A commercial cleaning operation in the underground parking levels (with equipment using a small gasoline-powered engine) has been identified as the culprit. The operation has been shut down and ventilation techniques will be used to restore healthy air to the affected areas, at which time businesses in the area can resume normal operations.
