[UPDATED] KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0640; 10:47AM; 1115 S Elm Dr; https://bit.ly/4mG6GBe; #Pico-Robertson; Following reports of a person trapped in an adjacent unit, firefighters rescued one patient (94F) with minor injuries. Fire was held to the unit of origin, with adjacent units and floors above successfully protected from fire impingement. Knockdown declared in 26 minutes with 44 firefighters on scene. Traffic will be affected and handled by LADOT while companies overhaul damage and clear smoke from the building. LAFD PIO en route -- media staging at Elm x Whitworth. With summer temperatures on the rise, LAFD has been keenly focused on mitigating wildfire threat in these areas during LADWP's repair process -- additional resources staged throughout the affected area have now been released. Firefighters forced entry and quickly extinguished a small fire inside the structure. Companies ensured walls and attic were clear of fire extension and searched for any occupants -- no injuries reported. Knockdown declared in 21 minutes. Update KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0297; 04:33AM; 16208 S Vermont Av; https://bit.ly/3HjRrPq; Harbor Gateway; KNOCKDOWN at the "Major Emergency" fire known as Vermont IC. It took the combined effort of 144 firefighters 5 hours (300 minutes) in defensive mode to contain the complex fire and mitigate various safety considerations. Multiple LAFD units, including Hazmat, will remain on scene to monitor and control any fire or life safety hazards due to the large amount of lead-acid batteries burning at this commercial occupancy. The fire is under active investigation. Update KNOCKDOWN Brush Fire; INC#0593; 09:34AM; 5600 N Woodley Av; https://bit.ly/3RG8PQg; Sepulveda Basin; A well coordinated effort by LAFD ground crews have confirmed all forward progress of the fire has been stopped. Basin IC has updated the fire footprint to be a 50' x 50' area of heavy brush in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Center. No injuries reported. No structures threatened. Firefighters will remain at scene mopping up hotspots and completing a damp bare soil perimeter surrounding the burned area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
