Update #SepulvedaFire Structure Fire; INC#0996; 05:18PM; 7101 N Sepulveda Bl; http://bit.ly/2qGByLu; Van Nuys; A well-coordinated and ongoing effort by 125 LAFD Firefighters has extinguished the *bulk* of flames in this vacant five-story commercial building in 71 minutes. As those responders work toward full fire extinguishment, specially trained and certified LAFD Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) crews are preparing to enter and assess the building for structural integrity, so that they and their LAFD colleagues can perform a thorough and detailed assessment of the building to assure no victims or hazard remains. There have been no injuries, and no declaration from bystanders that any person is known to be missing. Sepulveda Boulevard will remain closed in both directions between Sherman Way and Vose Street until completion of LAFD operations. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and consider alternate routes. Detours are readily available. Firefighters are operating in a defensive manner using multiple heavy streams in attacking the fire from the building's exterior only. No other buildings are threatened. One LAFD helicopter is providing command support aerial reconnaissance to check for flying brands.
