At 11:59 a knockdown was declared with no injuries reported. As firefighters were making their way through the building they located barrels (unknown quantity and size at this time) of an unidentified substance. LAFD HazMat Squad requested and is responding to determine if the barrels are a hazard. This remains an ongoing investigation by LAFD Arson Section and LAPD. The LA County Coroner/Medical Examiner's Office will determine cause of death and confirm identification. LAFD resources will remain on scene for an unspecified period to assist with the safe removal of remains. The home largely collapsed during the intense firefight, but no firefighter injuries have been reported.
