Welding in an attached garage appears to have been the cause of the fire. Firefighters extinguished the flames in 12 minutes (12:22 PM), and successfully prevented fire from spreading to the attached living quarters of the home. Update KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#1555; 11:40PM; 4939 E Barstow St; https://bit.ly/2PKrcGw; El Sereno; A descending hillside single-family home (one story in the front, two story in the rear) was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. A defensive attack knocked back the flames enough for firefighters to transition to an interior attack to finish off the remaining hot spots. A partial roof collapse presented challenges in accessing the fire. Ultimately, it took 74 firefighters 56 minutes to extinguish the fire. No reported injuries.
