Two adult male construction workers were involved in an unspecified purpose trenching project in the side yard of a single family home, when the wall of a 4' deep trench that had "makeshift shoring" gave way, including soil and a concrete slab from a nearby sidewalk. One of the men escaped the trench with a leg injury prior to LAFD arrival, and is now being evaluated by paramedics. His conscious and alert co-worker remains in the trench, his leg(s) trapped by the aforementioned soil and concrete. The fire was skillfully confined to the single textile firm, with the two immediately adjoining businesses spared from fire extension. No injuries were reported.
