KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0057; 01:10AM; 7320 N Hazeltine Av; https://bit.ly/3YboAST; #VanNuys; Firefighters arrived to the two-story residential apartment building (above one parking level) to find smoke throughout both residential floors and a fire in one unit. Initially several people were trapped inside. Firefighters quickly rescued the residents and provided medical evaluation/treatment outside. Two people (including one child) were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation in unknown condition. Crews deployed hose lines to the fire unit and quickly extinguished the flames. Fire ground personnel set up blowers to systematically evacuate smoke from the building and restore fresh air inside. It took the first 43 firefighters 34 minutes to extinguish the flames. Crews forced entry through the front door and found one woman with burns and smoke inhalation in critical condition. A second patient was outside with lacerations (man in fair condition), applying water through broken windows to hamper the fire's progress. Both the man and woman were transported to a local hospital. It took 32 firefighters 16 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. Crews ascended the interior stair wells with hose and equipment, and made access to the top floor where they found fire in one unit. It took 52 firefighters 29 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. Firefighters will remain on scene to mitigate the water damage from fire suppression efforts, and evacuate smoke from the building. No reported injuries.
