KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0348; 07:41AM; 12665 W Foothill Bl; https://bit.ly/3qkYoUx; Sylmar; KNOCKDOWN: Over 80 firefighters extinguished the fire in 43 minutes with no injuries reported. The fire appears to have started on the 1st floor and extended up to the 2nd and through a common void space (similar to an attic) horizontally to additional units. A total of four units on the first floor and five units on the 2nd floor sustained heavy fire damage. A portion of the 2nd story floor is burned through. The fire was in one, isolated building (they are not connected) in the complex of storage buildings (DBA Public Storage). Firefighters quickly opened units and accessed the void space from the interior and the roof to stop the spread and save the rest of the units. The overhaul will be an extended operation due to the need to empty out the affected storage units to ensure no smoldering materials remain. LAFD Arson is responding for the investigation. Update GREATER ALARM Structure Fire; INC#0348; 07:16AM; 12665 W Foothill Bl; https://bit.ly/3qkYoUx; Sylmar; This is now at a Greater Alarm status with over 80 firefighters assigned. Initial reports of heavy fire in approximately 7 units on both the first and second floor (14 units in total). Firefighters are in the offensive mode and are also getting in position to prevent the spread of fire from the back of the facility to the vegetation on the 118FY embankment. LAFD Arson is responding for the investigation. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#1434; 07:15PM; 8333 N Van Nuys Bl; https://bit.ly/3tpaRIV; Panorama City; KNOCKDOWN: Over 70 firefighters extinguished the fire in 53 minutes. The building is updated to a four story commercial (Walmart) with fire on the 2nd floor. The fire sprinkler system activated and there is now a significant water removal operation underway. Four patients were evaluated and declined LAFD transport. LAFD Arson is responding for the investigation. LA Dept of Building and Safety and LA County Dept of Public Health were notified. FINAL UPDATE Hazardous Materials; INC#0388; 11:54AM; 4541 W Electronics Pl; https://bit.ly/3u5FP83; Atwater Village; FINAL UPDATE: At 8:38AM the LAFD responded to a Hazardous Materials incident at the Huntsman Chemical facility at 4541 W Electronics Place. After a thorough investigation, the following was determined: The product “Reninfusion 8610” (a one-component epoxy system) was being processed for transport and a small valve broke which caused the release of a cloud. The leak was contained (there was a limited amount of product) and when LAFD Hazardous Materials Specialists made entry with gas meters, no reading of concern registered. Residents in areas affected by the dissipating cloud who experienced any medical distress are recommended to seek medical advice through their health care provider. The product’s corrosive hazards are with direct contact when it’s in a liquid state. No workers on scene exhibited any medical complaints. LAFD has no further information for this incident. LA County Health Hazardous Materials is handling the investigation with South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD). *NOTE* It was later learned the release was made by a pressure relief valve which operated as designed (not a broken valve) when the vessel overheated while the product was being processed. ; FS 50; Batt 2; Central Bureau; Council District 13; Margaret Stewart
