KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#1666; 10:27PM; 3765 S Vinton Av; https://bit.ly/3RC3UhZ; #Palms; Twenty-two LAFD firefighters extinguished a fire in 15 minutes, which appeared to have started in a dumpster in or near a first floor carport, and burned an auto and damaged the exterior of the building. Firefighters were able to contain the flames before they made it inside any of the units. Some smoke did affect the upper floor, and firefighters are assisting with ventilation to return fresh air to the residential structure. A sink hole appears to be forming (unknown if the hole in the street is growing?) and several homes in the area are being evacuated as a precaution. It took some additional time to chase fire that was inside the walls. Ultimately, it took 22 firefighters 16 minutes to extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. Update Hazardous Materials; INC#1548; 09:50PM; 601 E Venice Bl; https://bit.ly/3l2Nsv5; #Venice; After obtaining a better view of the inside of the vehicle (despite condensation on the windows obstructing their view), firefighters discovered that the reported propane inside the vehicle was coming from small camping-style propane bottles. While the exact circumstances are unknown, it *appears* to have been an unhoused man (approx 70 years old) who was trying to stay warm in an enclosed space (propane-powered heat lamp) and, sadly, succumbed to accidental asphyxiation (oxygen displaced by leaking propane).
