Update Vehicle Fire with Injuries; INC#1111; 03:30PM; 9750 N Wheatland Av; https://bit.ly/4dV84f8; #ShadowHills; The earlier described "explosion" is best now defined instead as a large "fireball" that suddenly erupted from the burning vehicle shortly after LAFD arrival. There are now *five* total patients. Along with the three firefighters earlier mentioned with non-life threatening burn injuries, the fourth member of their four-person crew, who displayed no immediate injury or medical complaint, is now being taken to the same regional burn center for a baseline medical evaluation. The fifth patient, an adult male civilian associated with the burned coupe, sustained minor burns to his arm and leg, as well as singed facial hair. He will be transported by LAFD ambulance to an area hospital in fair condition. Three LAFD firefighters sustained non-life threatening burn injury from what is being tentatively described as an "explosion" while battling the blaze, and are now being transported to a regional burn center for primary medical assessment. No other injuries reported. There is no escalating or off-site hazard identified. Knockdown - Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#0866; 01:02PM; 16816 W Saticoy St; https://bit.ly/4ecoDTv; #LakeBalboa; Despite oppressively hot weather (108° F), and multiple explosions within the fire building on LAFD arrival (believed related to vehicles and/or equipment typical of such premises) and structural compromise from intense flames, the 104 assigned firefighters took just 63 minutes in largely defensive firefighting operations to access, confine and fully extinguish heavy fire that consumed a 3,544 square foot one-story automotive body and paint repair facility ("New Century Auto Body & Paint"), as well as several vehicles within and adjacent to the business. No injuries were reported. The 70 year-old structure, of cinder block construction was not equipped with an optional fire sprinkler system. Complete - Trench Rescue; INC#0750; 04:54PM; 2333 N Catalina St; https://bit.ly/4dRkZPp; #LosFeliz; After nearly six hours of a relentless rescue effort in oppressive heat by dozens of Los Angeles Fire Department responders working seamlessly in non-stop rotation, the adult male construction worker has been skillfully removed from the unstable 8 (eight) foot deep trench at a residential construction site. In serious condition, he is soon to be transported by LAFD Paramedics to a regional trauma center. Two LAFD rescuers were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion, with one later taken to an area hospital for further medical evaluation. No other injuries reported.
