Firefighters proceeded in defensive mode (without making entry into the structure) in the interest of safety; collapse of second floor occurred just prior to knockdown with no injuries to personnel. Exposed structures successfully defended, with fire fully extinguished in 23 minutes by first-arriving companies. Building and Safety notified and en route — firefighters remain on scene for overhaul. Though a large volume of smoke was found within the building, firefighters were successful in preventing fire damage to the structure. No injury. One adult female civilian with severe burn injuries has been transported by LAFD Paramedics to an area hospital in serious condition. No other injuries reported.
