Earthquake Mode; INC#0819; 12:22PM; 200 Rfs; https://bit.ly/3wjsDl6; Chinatown; A preliminary magnitude 4.7 earthquake occurred at 12:20 PM PDT, near South Pasadena, 7.5 mile east of Downtown LA. Pursuant to protocol, the LAFD is now in earthquake mode, as personnel from all 106 neighborhood fire stations conduct a strategic survey by land, air and sea of their districts, examining critical infrastructure and areas of local concern across our 470 square mile City of Los Angeles jurisdiction. Once this process is complete and reports are consolidated, assuming there is no significant damage, LAFD Earthquake Mode will be complete. This process typically takes less than one hour. There are currently no initial reports of structural damage or injuries. An update will be provided once LAFD Earthquake Mode is complete. Though no additional earthquake activity is predicted, firefighters ask you to prepare for any aftershock. If inside when shaking starts: Drop, Cover, Hold On! Protect your head and neck while taking cover under sturdy furniture or near a sturdy interior wall, away from windows and doorways until the shaking stops. Crews will remain on scene well into the night conducting overhaul operations. Update FORWARD PROGRESS STOPPED Brush Fire; INC#1422; 07:45PM; 4926 E La Calandria Wy; https://bit.ly/4cmngAn; El Sereno; The coordinated work between LAFD Air Operations providing water drops and ground based firefighters aggressive fire attack stopped all forward progress. The four homes at the top of the ridge were defended with only minor damage to a patio cover in the backyard of one home. One of the threatened homes was under construction, placing it at much higher risk, but the decisive actions of the firefighters ensured it was not damaged. The fire was held (size updated via LAFD Air Ops) to approximately one acre. A primary and secondary search of all floors were clear. Firefighters will remain on scene conducting overhaul operations. No injuries reported. Crews will continue to work and gain full containment (hand lines all around the fire) while the LACoFD hand crews assist with cutting line. There were no structures damaged and no injuries reported.
