Traffic Collision with Entrapment 09/02/2023 INC#1222

Traffic Collision with Entrapment; INC#1222; 05:58PM; 1500 S Sepulveda Bl; https://bit.ly/3qYYR2i; #Sawtelle; PRELIM: Two vehicle collision with a total of 5 patients (unknown age / gender / affiliation / circumstances). Two of the patients were badly trapped in the wreckage - one in each passenger vehicle, before being freed by LAFD responders. They were both taken by LAFD Paramedics to a regional trauma center in grave condition. A third patient from one of the vehicles, who was not trapped, was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. Two Good Samaritans (not involved in the collision), who attempted to free the trapped patients prior to LAFD arrival, declined treatment for minor injuries. Road closure: All lanes of northbound and southbound Sepulveda Boulevard will remain closed in the vicinity of Ohio Avenue until LAPD operations are complete, unknown duration. Motorists, expect congestion and delay, avoid the immediate area and consider an alternate route. Detours are readily available. Monitor traffic reports on news radio. Update Agency Assist; INC#0597; 01:30PM; 13551 W Culver Bl; https://bit.ly/45CVJbq; #PlayaDelRey; LAFD crews have accessed and systematically searched the shed-like structure in a concealed space below the Culver Boulevard bridge (approximately 20' above slow moving 10-15' deep tidal water in the Ballona Creek flood control channel) to discover the remains of an approximately 40 year-old male (undetermined body condition / site affiliation / circumstances), who has been determined deceased at the scene. No other persons injured. Upon the joint approval of LAPD Detectives now leading the investigation and the Medical Examiner's Investigator, LAFD personnel will assist in the safe and dignified removal of the body from the still difficult to access shed-like structure, at a yet to be determined time. A positive identification of the decedent, as well as the specific cause, time and manner of their death will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office. Street Closure: Culver Boulevard (eastbound and westbound) will remain closed to all traffic between Jefferson Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard until LAPD/Medical Examiner on-site operations are complete. Motorists should avoid the immediate area and consider an alternate route. Detours are available. No time estimate to street reopening. The San Diego bound passenger train came to an emergency stop and remains just east of the location. The train crew and approximately 116 passengers have denied injury, and will remain on board the train, pending the train's release by LAPD investigators. Traffic Collision; INC#0736; 11:05AM; 128 E Pico Bl; https://bit.ly/47WWgGH; #DowntownLA; Two-vehicle collision involving a hydrant and the front of a business at the intersection of East Pico Boulevard and South Los Angeles Street. Thankfully, there was nobody trapped, and no one transported to the hospital. Crews notified DWP to assist with fully shutting off the water flow from the damaged hydrant, and notified LA Department of Building and Safety to assess the building damage. Urban Search and Rescue teams remain on scene to assist with bringing the vehicle back onto the street. LAPD Inc # 1888. Firefighters have successfully protected the occupancies on either side, containing the blaze to the unit-of-origin. The heavy load of textiles (clothes/fabrics) still contain deep seated hot spots, which will flare up as the debris is pulled apart within the building, which sustained a roof collapse and walls buckling. Crews rescued two patients using a basket off of the aerial ladder to bring them up to street level, where ambulances were waiting. A mother and daughter (9 years old) were both transported in moderate condition.
