Brush Fire - Now Out; INC#1263; 04:39PM; 1000 N Palisades Dr; https://bit.ly/3y7wORN; Pacific Palisades; Firefighters arrived to find approximately one-eighth of an acre of medium brush with approximately 10mph onshore winds. No structures threatened. Crews quickly surrounded the fire with hose lines and extinguished the flames by ground attack. No reported injuries. Physical Rescue - Fatal Collision; INC#0864; 12:51PM; 8404 W La Tuna Canyon Rd; https://bit.ly/4fbLsbc; #Tujunga; LAFD responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision to find one person trapped in each vehicle. Firefighters extricated an approximately 30-year-old male and transported him to a local hospital in serious condition. Sadly, the person in the second vehicle was found to be dead at the scene. Crews will help with extricating the deceased from the wreckage (as a body recovery, not a rescue) to assist LAPD and LA Medical Examiner. Stolen Ambulance Recovered; INC#0600; 11:00AM; 10800 S Prairie Av; #Inglewood; Firefighter-Paramedics responded to a behavioral emergency near the intersection of Gage and Hoover. While on scene, the patient (who appeared to be experiencing a psychiatric crisis) commandeered the rescue ambulance (identified as RA57) and left the scene without any ambulance personnel on board. There were no injuries as a result. Crews engaged in a defensive fire fight, setting up heavy streams from the exterior only, and knocked back the flames to keep them from spreading to adjacent structures. It took 46 firefighters 41 minutes to extinguish the flames. There were no reported injuries. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0917; 01:01PM; 800 E Florence Av; https://bit.ly/3y4tSW1; Florence; Firefighters responded to heavy fire at the corner of East Florence Avenue and McKinley Avenue, where a large storage yard was on fire (concrete walls surrounding the yard, with overhead roofing/protection built over part of the yard). Firefighters began in defensive mode, applying heavy water streams from the perimeter of the property. The intense heat caused flames to penetrate the adjacent (vacant) commercial building, where firefighters made interior access and fought back the encroaching flames from inside. For a portion of the fire, crews mounted an offensive attack, however as the fire quickly grew and put the structural components of the building under intense heat, firefighters retreated into the defensive mode and fought the fire from the exterior only. Ultimately, it took over 100 firefighters 81 minutes to fully extinguish the flames. No reported injuries.
